What a great Christmas present for the family! The Myers Clan should be proud of their heritage. Grandma looks like a real glamour girl – love that red lipstick! She must have knocked the socks off those Navy guys!

    Love,
    Mom

  2. A great scrap book. I noted the mention of the name Verity. The Verity’s lived next door to Doc and Nanny Buchheit. When we visited in the summer on our way to Blue Lake, Mr Verity and his son Mr. Verity would sit on the porch opposite. We would often stare as they looked exactly alike. In truth the verities were strikingly similar.

  3. Wow! Christy! I don’t know what to say. You’ve outdone yourself this time. It’s so wonderful to read about our ancestors and Grandma. Everything comes to life as if we were there.

  4. A received a nice e-mail the other day from Steve Scharringhausen regarding the Scharringhausen Pharmacy:

The Scharringhausen pharmacy is very familiar! Uncle George Scharringhausen and his son were of course, family to my father (James C. Scharringhausen) and me. In 1965, I walked into the pharmacy in my brand new Air Force uniform (stationed at Chanute)… George Jr. about had a heart attack because my father (who I look a lot like) did the same thing in 1945 after being gone for 3 1/2 years in England. Many memories are attached to Park Ridge, Des Planes, etc. – My entire family came from there…

  5. Hello family … I am George Scharringhausen Sr’s grandson (therefore George Jr’s son). I, too, was a pharmacist … retired and sold the business as an independent pharmacy in 1999. It’s operating today as a Medicine Shoppe pharmacy. I remember well most of my grandfather’s siblings … Genevieve Myers, Lillian Stangor, Emma Melzer, Louis (Luche sp?), who was also a pharmacist, and their spouses and children. My sister, Helen, is a pharmacist, living in Houston, Texas. I have lived in Park Ridge my entire life (born in 1934). lease feel free to contact me at 19 N. Seminary Avenue, Park Ridge, IL 60068.

    • Hello…my name is Glenn Purtell. Lived in Park Ridge 1944 through 1963, got married and moved to Des Plaines. Recall the generosity of George Scharringhausen who made a 2AM house call to me in DesPlaines to deliver anti-dote for food poisening . My wife called several doctors – none would assist but Mr. Scharringhausen who made the late nite drive from Park Ridge. These are the people who made Park Ridge work and what is today. What a great man!

  6. Hello,
I have an old black and white photo (8×10) that I believe is taken inside of the prescription department of Scharringhausen’s pharmacy. It shows two men in lab coats and I can just make out the Scharringhausen name on their lab coats. I believe that the photo is from the 1930s to 1940s, although there is an old candlestick type telephone in the background. Anyone interested, please email 1gerken@bellsouth.net I am selling off my collection of pharmacy items and am not a member of the family. I was going to load the photo on eBay, but thought I’d let you know first. –Tracy
